As you probably know by now, Christmas is one of my favourite time of the year. I may not be crazy about the cold but there’s something about being cosy in my house with hot chocolate topped with marshmallows. I love the lights, the music, the food and I think it’s the most romantic time of the year.

This is the only time of the year when I can justify watching all the romantic Christmas movies on Hallmark Channel (so cheesy)!

This is the time to take full advantage of the festive season with these twelve date ideas (in no particular order).

“On the first day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Christmas Market

Stalls of Christmas ornaments, hot cider, live music and a whole lot of Christmas cheer! To make it a great date, challenge each other to pick out a gift for each other with a budget of £10.

“On the second day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Christmas Movie Marathon

Since the weather outside is frightful (get it? Lol), a wonderful way to spend some alone time with your date is to watch back to back Christmas movies. Swap the traditional popcorn for Reindeer crunch, gingerbread men or women, sugar cookies and top it off with your choice of hot chocolate or mulled wine. Snuggle up and enjoy!

“On the third day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Ice Skating

If you are a romantic comedy aficionado like myself, then you know that holding hands while ice skating, showing off your poise and grace (or lack thereof) is what is required during the holiday season. From Somerset House to Canary Wharf, there are plenty of places to choose from in London.

“On the fourth day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

River Cruise

London is a magical place during Christmas. Take a cruise down the River Thames and enjoy a carefree and relaxing date.

“On the fifth day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Winter Wonderland

Stalls selling festive trinkets? Hot mulled wine aroma in the air? What better place to go on a festive date than Winter Wonderland? From the circus show to the ultra-romantic observation wheel, there will be plenty to keep you occupied.

“On the sixth day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Christmas Baking

Spend the day backing a few different Christmas treats. Sugar cookies is my go to recipe, it’s easy and its quick, but if you’re looking for a challenge, you could also make a gingerbread house. Make it a full day affair by strolling down the aisle of your chosen shop to find all the ingredients.

“On the seventh day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Volunteering

Christmas is the season for sharing and being thankful. Volunteer at a soup kitchen to help those who are in need during this season. It’s easy to find several homeless shelters, charities or Churches where you can donate a few hours of your day.

“On the eighth day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Christmas Carols

From Hillsong to All Souls, Christmas carol concerts can be found all around London. Bring you’re A-game and sing your heart out. You can even turn it into a healthy competition to see who can out-sing the other.

“On the ninth day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Winter Walk

One of the most romantic things you can do in London this Christmas is take a walk through the likes of Oxford Street to look at the display of Christmas lights and enjoy the atmosphere. Branch into the shops to buy gifts or just to window shop. After all that walking, you can find a nice cosy restaurant or café of the beaten path to enjoy a hot drink.

“On the tenth day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Go To The Theatre

Tickets don’t have to be expensive, there are always deals that also include a delicious meal. Choose a musical you can sing along to (not too loud, you don’t want to disturb others). My all tie favourite is The Lion King, so I will recommend watching it with your date.

“On the eleventh day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Toy Store Fun

So ever since I watched Home Alone 2 I’ve loved the idea of wandering through a toy store like ‘Duncan’s Toy Chest’. Lucky for me, there’s Hamley’s in London which comes close. Take stroll through the aisles, relive your childhood and if you’re really in the spirit of cheerful giving, buy a gift for a child and drop off at a charity.

“On the twelfth day of Christmas, my date said, ‘How about we…’”

Decorating

I love a good Christmas decoration session! Get a tree, choose a colour scheme, buy some decorations, get some snacks and get to work! When you’ve finished, you can both sit-down and look at the beautiful result of your teamwork.

If you’re like me and you want to squeeze in as much fun over the festive season…

Bonus Date

Head to the spa! Relish the chance to spend relaxing quality time together with a couple’s massage. In the dead of winter some steamy sauna time feels just right!
